Presented by the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region, this Socratic Forum features a discussion with Geoffrey Canada about the Harlem Children's Zone and the Promise Neighborhood model of wrapping children in high-quality, coordinated health, social, community, and educational support from the cradle to college to career. Canada joins a broader discussion with a panel of government, education, business, and philanthropic leaders in Prince George's County. The panel focuses on community solutions for critical education issues, including college readiness. The goals of this forum are to raise awareness of this problem, challenge others to think of innovative ways to help children succeed, and to encourage others to become involved.
The discussion is led by moderator Dr. Ronald A. Williams, Vice President, College Board. It features Geoffrey Canada, founder of the Harlem Children’s Zone, Rushern Baker, Prince George’s County Executive, Thomas Graham, President, Pepco Region, Duane Arbogast, Acting Deputy, Superintendent for Academics, Prince George’s County Public Schools, and Carmen James Lane, Senior, Program Officer, Eugene & Agnes E. Meyer Foundation.
